Only You Can Prevent Forest Fires - A Proactive Approach to Monitoring Your OpenStack Cloud

When the alarms go off and it's your responsibility to solve a problem with your cloud, it's important to have visibility into your deployment.  What if it was possible to see the problems before they happened?  What if it was possible to solve the next issue before the alarm goes off or a customer reports an issue?  Over the past eight months, Time Warner Cable has been using the Monasca project for alerting, capacity planning, problem prediction, and trend analysis.  This talk will cover how we've gone from reactive to proactive, the challenges along our way, and how you can do the same.

What can I expect to learn?

OpenStack users will learn how to overcome the challenges of monitoring their cloud at scale, as well as the tools they can use to get more out of their data.  We will also discuss the important questions behind effective monitoring, such as what information can be acted on, and share real-life examples of how our monitoring has prevented customer outages and eased the life of on-call personnel.

Wednesday, April 27, 4:30pm-5:10pm (9:30pm - 10:10pm UTC)
