Using Ceilometer Data for Effective Witch-Hunting

Ceilometer is most often thought of as a way to get usage and metering information into a system for billing or usage show-back.  Many people don't realize it's potential as a way to identify "abusive" or "heavy-duty" users.

In this presentation, Overstock.com's Lead Cloud Systems Architect will walk you through simple and effective ways to use Ceilometer data to identify heavy users of CPU, disk I/O, and network during those critical times when usage is spiking and you need to go on a 'witch-hunt' for the culprit.

As part of this presentation, Mike will step through the simple Python code he uses to retrieve, sort, and make sense of this vital information as an operator of the Overstock Private Cloud.

What can I expect to learn?

By attending this session, you should expect to learn how Ceilometer works, what information it gathers, how to query this information, and how to effectively sort and analyze this data to identify heavy users and abusers of cloud resources.

Great and engaging presentation style & thanks for letting us know about those worthy side-ventures of Overstock's. Presentation itself was very clear but perhaps just a little light on content...
