Cloud-ready apps (‘cattle’) don’t need to be migrated, say visionaries. But in the real world, even cloud-ready apps sometimes do (e.g., when they live inside tenants upon whose complex configurations they depend). Meanwhile, there are still plenty of old-school ‘pet’ workloads you might hope to migrate (instead of torturously rebuilding).
This session deep dives into the when, which and why of migration on OpenStack, and covers:
- Migration basics: what happens during migration
- When migration is a good idea (and when it's not)
- How to judge which workloads are good candidates for migration (and which are not)
- How long it takes to migrate and why
Attendees will leave more capable of successfully evaluating OpenStack migration projects and workload migration candidates.
By attending this presentation, you will gain a solid real-world understanding of:
- Migration basics: what happens during migration
- When migration is a good idea (and when it's not)
- How to judge which workloads are good candidates for migration (and which are not)
- Methods for reliably estimating the time required for migrating particular workloads
