Part 1 - Software Defined Data Center and PCIe-Based Rack Scale Architecture, we will introduce two main subjects – applied research and development for software defined data center and rack scale architecture (RSA). For the first subject, we will highlight the enhancement we did for IOD (ITRI OpenStack Distribution), which includes Peregrine (Neutron Plug-in), DISCO (Cinder plug-in), HaaS and Monitoring (PDCM). Our proposal of RSA is based on PCIe bus for intra-rack communication to reap the benefit of software defined server, resource (NIC, Storage, Memory) pooling, high density, real time and low latency. This hyper-converged architecture has a natural adaptation for NFV, high end SDS and high performance computing.
OpenStack has emerged as a leading platform technology for building and deploying cloud computing platform and data center. At the same time, applying big data technology/analytics solutions to address business problems has caught every business executive’s attention. Part II - OpenStack Based Big Data Analytics Platform and Applications, we will present our research and development work that incorporates OpenStack as a foundation layer for building a big data analytics (BDA) platform. Unlike traditional big data platform that uses HDFS for file and object storage and Ambori for monitoring and cluster management, our BDA platform (codename Bistro) uses OpenStack for file/object storage, cluster management among other things. In addition, we will share our experience in developing and deploying our big data analytics solutions with Bistro in a few real customer scenarios.
