L2 Gateway in a Production Environment - Highly Scaled, Secured, Seamless Data and Control Path

It is heard that most of the cloud provider administrators find it difficult to configure openstack/networking-l2gw to bring legacy bare metal servers into cloud.

Based on the efforts we put in the community in the recent OpenStack releases and HPE Helion to make it production quality with extra features in the solution, we want to present to the global community various configurations required in networking-l2gw and physical L2 gateway switches to achieve the following:

  1. secure communication between neutron components and the switches.
  2. how NICs on the compute nodes can be bonded for active-active data-path
  3. how the gateway switches can be configured in the IRF mode to achieve the control path high-availability on the switch side.
  4. the scale numbers we achieved during our robust testing.
