Translating “Ephemeral” for the Enterprise: A Guide for OpenStack Pros

If you’re an OpenStack professional in the Enterprise, you’ve probably had many conversations about cattle; ephemeral instances, virtual machines that can die at any time without warning and never come back.

The concept of cattle is often completely alien to Enterprise IT and fails to fit into their existing models of how IT systems function. It can be seen as conflicting with their operational and security processes, leading to the question “how do I build a stable, Enterprise-grade system on top of ephemeral cows?”
