Nokia: Deploying Neutron at Scale - What to Do with 1000+ Compute Nodes?
What architecture did China Mobile (CMCC) choose for networking? What problems did CMCC encounter? How did CMCC solve them?
China Mobile has built a significant Openstack-based public cloud, comprising of 1000+ compute nodes to provide NFV services across two data centers (so far). This includes distributed Neutron networking services, with Firewall, Load Balancer and VPN interconnect.
This includes:
- Scaling to > 50 000 VPCs
- Interconnect between data centers including automated VPC interconnect
- Connectivity from CMCC public cloud to private cloud sites
Learnings:
- How to deploy OpenStack Networking in a 1000+ compute node environment
- Problems encountered with Neutron reference implementation
- How to build a fully automated large-scale Cloud
- Best way to build hybrid Clouds with consistent network and security policy
