Eighteen months ago, after the Boston OpenStack Summit, there was a growing realization that Clouds don’t just need to be in data centers, availability of IaaS on the network edge is quickly becoming a requirement due to the explosive growth of content delivery & IoT... Since then, the Edge Computing Working Group has been hard at work defining use cases, from smart remote cameras, streaming content, augmented reality, gaming, to new ways of deploying emerging technology networks. Join us as the panel discusses the work that we have been doing and how we have been engaged with the larger OpenStack and Open Source communities over the past year on a number of projects including:
- Keystone development to support edge clouds
- Glance support for federated models
- Related projects such as Cyborg, Airship and StarlingX
- Data synchronization with edge clouds
- Work with adjacent communities: OPNFV Edge Cloud Project, more comunities to come
- Vendor and user collaboration
What is going on with the Edge Working Group including:
- Challenges OpenStack faces supporting the network edge and ideas on how to solve these challenges
- Main business and consumer drivers for supporting the edge including: specific use cases, back-haul reduction, improved QoE and decreased latency
- Future road map.
