Towards production-grade Database as a Service in OpenStack

Trove is Database as a Service for OpenStack. It was designed with the goal of enabling users to quickly and easily utilize the features of relational and non-relational databases without the burden of handling complex administrative tasks. Pure Trove, however, despite the rich set of functionalities related to database management, does not support many key production capabilities, among others: cluster backup and recovery, monitoring, auto-scaling and auto-healing. During the session, we will share our experience of working with Trove in production environment and present recent advancements in its feature-set that we introduced as the first steps towards production-grade Database as a Service. In addition, we will review existing OpenStack services that can be used to overcome Trove limitations, and propose vision of integrating these tools with the project.
