The story of how Nokia took Vitrage from concept to the Big Tent in just six months.
A year and a half ago, a few Nokia developers realized that Root Cause Analysis (RCA) was lacking in OpenStack. They put together the basic code for what is now known as Vitrage – an RCA and Deduced Alarms service that supplies insights about OpenStack through open APIs to practically any service imaginable, and connects the physical, virtual and application layers.
Vitrage was first introduced as an idea at the Tokyo summit – we came with diagrams, our collective experience and a lot of passion, and got the blessing of key people in OpenStack.
This is a story of going from a concept, to a working code, to a community, to becoming an official part of OpenStack – and all this in record time. We will describe the steps we took along the way, the decision points, the failures and successes that led us along this route. This is a story for anyone dreaming about the Big Tent.
Attendees can learn how an idea can become a reality.
We will describe the steps we took along the way in order to shorten the time to our acceptance into the Bit Tent to a minimum. We will advise on the important things to notice in the beginning of the process, to make the journey as smooth as possible, and how you can work within OpenStack, by its guidelines, in order to achieve your goal.
