This presentation will start by explaining the different layers and players of the container ecosystem, and how Kata Containers fits into the picture. The second part of it will detail the steps Kata went through, highlighting all the good things that happened along with the growth of the community, and how other communities are now taking seriously into consideration VM based container runtimes. The last part will focus on Kata Containers being a secure container runtime primary leveraging hardware virtualization, and will emphasize on the absence of dependency on any specific hypervisor. It will show that hypervisors such as QEMU or Firecracker have been designed with very different usages in mind, and that Kata Containers can make use of one or another based on the use case.
If you're looking for a retrospective about Kata Containers, understanding how it came in the ecosytem at first, and then how it has been able to influence some of the decisions from other communities, this session is for you.
If you're looking for a clear understanding of Kata Containers position regarding the different hypervisors on the market and how it has been designed to integrate them, this session is also for you.
By attending this session, you will get a better understanding about where Kata Containers stands in the container world, and how it consistently tries to comply and influence at the same time.
