Verizon operates a private cloud and virtual infrastructure manager based on OpenStack. The Verizon Cloud Platform (VCP) provides infrastructure services for applications that vary greatly in terms of needs. Such applications range in scope from simple web applications, analysis tools, service assurance tools, mapping and spatial analysis tools, monitoring, metering, auto-remediation, to more complicated Virtual Network Function (NFV) and orchestration tools.

In this presentation we will discuss managed practices that allow Verizon teams to operate OpenStack at scale. The practices include engineering, operations, fault management, solution architecture, and tools development.

Examples will include automation for engineering of site builds and upgrades, dashboards, alerts, and maps for monitoring/performance/analytics, tools used for follow-the-sun on-call support, platform analytics for tenant patterns and practices, and command line and API utilities for operational awareness.
