Timo Jokiaho is Principal Technologist at Red Hat’s EMEA Telco Technology Office, focusing on network functions virtualisation (NFV). He works with service providers, network equipment providers, system integrators and independent software vendors to progress the NFV agenda in the industry.
Red Hat has solid plans and products in the telecom networking domain for NFV combining those with industry-leading open source development and business model. Domain focus has been and is NFV Readiness of Red Hat OpenStack Platform today and container platform in near future, including networking performance, real-time characteristics, availability and other important topics.
Timo brought extensive experience to Red Hat, when he joined in, including his leadership of: software technology planning within Huawei Technologies; R&D for Samsung device software; and strategy, technology and architecture work within network element platform development at Nokia.
Timo is an active player in initiatives to drive the telco industry forward. He was the first chairman of the SCOPE Alliance, a network element platform technology initiative to enable and promote a vibrant carrier grade base platform ecosystem for the use in network element product development. He also chaired an industry consortium of major network equipment providers and has been president of the Service Availability Forum (SAForum) and chairman of SAForum Technical Working Group. He is a major contributor to the Linux Foundation.
Outside the telecommunications industry, Timo has worked within the IT security industry and in maritime navigation. He also ran his own business for several years. He holds a Master’s degree in computer science from Helsinki University.
