The enterprise world is traditionally very Microsoft centric and many companies and users are evaluating how to transition their workloads to a modern cloud infrastructure, in particular around OpenStack and Kubernetes.
This session will dive into how to build and deploy Windows images in OpenStack to avoid common pitfalls, regardless of your hypervisor of choice (KVM, Hyper-V, VMware, etc), including Cloudbase-Init, VirtIO drivers, licensing considerations and more. Next, we will talk about common Windows workloads in a cloud context using Heat templates and other deployment strategies.
Moving from VMs to containers, we will talk about Kubernetes and Windows, especially considering the recent GA release of the Windows support in Kubernetes 1.14, including a demo.
Last but not least we will briefly provide the status of the current Windows and WHP (Windows Hypervisor Platform) integration work in Rust-VMM, planning for the next generation of workloads.
To begin with, attendees will learn how to create Windows images for OpenStack and how to make the best out of the provisioning process, including the most common types of Windows workloads.
The next demo will show how to deploy Windows nodes in Kubernetes and run mixed workloads.
Finally, attendees will have a glance to what is happening in Rust-VMM in bringing Windows workloads to the next generation.
