Ashiq Khan received his BE and MSc in Information Engineering from Tohoku University in 2002 and 2004 respectively. He joined NTT DOCOMO, INC. in 2004 and has been engaged in R&D of autonomous mobile networks, Quality-of-Service (QoS) based routing and mobile service delivery platform. Since 2008, his work focus was on network virtualization and he was involved in ETSI NFV standardization, NFV-based mobile network development, and the consequent commercial roll-out of the world’s first multivendor virtualized Evolved Packet Core (vEPC) mobile system by DOCOMO in 2016. He served in the OPNFV TSC as a founding member, and initiated the Doctor and Promise projects, leading to their successful implementation in OpenStack. He is currently the Chairman of the ETSI ZSM Network Operator Council and an OPNFV Ambassador. His recent works include research and standardization of network slicing-based 5G core network and 5G network management. He received his PhD in Compute Science from the University of Tsukuba in 2015. He is presently with Rakuten Mobile, Inc. heading the Cloud Engineering & Ops department responsible for virtualizing Rakuten's mobile E2E network and its nationwide cloud deployment.
