The OpenStack community is huge and very welcoming to new members. All of us, that as of today, can claim as being experienced OpenStack developers, were newbies once. In this panel we are going to share our experiences as learners in the OpenStack community and today, as mentors. We are going to discuss where people seem to struggle the most and what can we do to help overcome this difficulties. We are also going to talk about mentoring/internship opportunities such as the Outreachy program, that sponsors interns to contribute in several open source projects, including OpenStack.
We expect people to understand the difficulties that newcomers have on open source projects like OpenStack and motivate more experienced developers to mentor (officially or unofficially) in order to facilitate the learning experience and make new contributors get up to speed as fast as possible. It is also expected to motivate newcomers to become mentors/leaders in the OpenStack community one day.
